Gino D’Acampo cooks up a storm at Leekes Coventry
Posted on April 11 2013
Gino D’Acampo cooked up a storm as he made a surprise appearance at Leekes last Saturday 6th April.
The UK’s favourite Italian chef and former King of the Jungle was at Coventry’s leading home department store to lead a live cooking demonstration in the purpose built Cookery Theatre, as well as to sign copies of his latest book. During the two-hour event in conjunction with Zanussi, the celebrity chef wooed the crowd of over 500 spectators with his quick wit and cheeky humour.
Two enthusiastic members of the audience were also called upon to help Gino create two fantastico dishes on the day, including a homemade pizza and Scaloppine al martini e pepe rosa (breast of chicken in Martini and pink peppercorn sauce).
A queue of over 150 then lined up for the opportunity to get their hands on a signed copy of Gino’s latest cookbook as well as pose for pictures, a task Gino relished as he offered cheeky kisses to everyone that wanted one – even the men.
Leekes Store Manager Julie Bowen commented: “We were thrilled to welcome Gino to our store this Saturday as he certainly proved a hit with the ladies (and gents) of Coventry. We regularly hold cookery demonstrations in the store in conjunction with Farmers Fayre, our in-store restaurant and Farm Shop, so check our web site for upcoming events.”
Leekes is Coventry’s newest family-owned home department store, located just off junction 3 of the M6. As the largest ‘destination’ home department store in the Midlands, it prides itself on offering everything for the home, all under one roof. The Coventry store opened in September 2012 following a £6 million investment.
Other Leekes Home Department Stores can be found in Bilston, Wolverhampton; Melksham in Wiltshire and Llantrisant and Cross Hands in South Wales, as well as a furniture store in Fenton, Stoke on Trent.

Farmers Fayre looks to a new chapter of growth
Posted on February 26 2013
A Warwickshire-based food and catering business, which specialises in supplying regional produce, has announced plans for a major investment.
Farmers Fayre is hoping to move into a new £650,000 state-of-the-art farm shop and restaurant at Stoneleigh Park.
The new 4800 sq ft complex would feature a 50-seat restaurant, a larger shop selling a range of produce as well as a specialised meat counter.
The family-owned company, which was founded in 1998 and employs 20 staff, will close its smaller outlet in Kenilworth town centre on March 1 to concentrate on its growing regional trade and the new complex.
Meanwhile the company will operate its wholesale business – which supplies restaurants and hotels – from Rumps of Warwick, led by head butcher Dave White, and continue to grow its online trade (www.farmersfayre.co.uk) which has shown 50% per cent growth in the last 12 months.
Nicola Reece, managing director of Farmers Fayre, said the investment would cap an important six months for the company.
“This is clearly a major move for us and comes as a result of an exciting period of growth for the company.
“At the heart of all our operations is the desire to supply local, high quality produce. By sticking avidly to that ethos and giving a showcase to local producers, we have struck a chord with consumers.
“Our new shop and restaurant will, in line with everything we do, be of the highest quality and allow us to give our produce, and that of other suppliers, the best possible platform.
“As any retailer will tell you, this is a rapidly changing market and we believe that the new shop and restaurant will give our customers the best experience as well as moving the business forward.
“We are obviously sad to be leaving Kenilworth, but we do see a great number of our customers from there already using Stoneleigh. One thing that will never change is the warm and friendly Farmers Fayre welcome people can expect when they visit us.”
Farmers Fayre launched a new farm shop, coffee shop, restaurant and live cookery theatre at the Leekes department store in Coventry last September, while its catering team, led by Executive Chef Damon Corey, offers corporate, event and wedding catering services, including hog roasts, from Stoneleigh Park.
Farmers Fayre will also be looking to grow its Midshires rose veal offering and focusing on a busy season of food shows in the year ahead to showcase its outstanding product range.
The new farm shop and restaurant is part of a major redevelopment of Stoneleigh Park.
Colin Hooper, Stoneleigh Park Estates Director, said: “Famers Fayre is a real success story thanks to high quality produce and real hard work from Nicola and her team.
“Its operation here has become increasingly popular and we hope this move would allow the business to continue to flourish as well as attract more people to Stoneleigh. The designs for the new shop and restaurant are well advanced and the project is moving forward encouragingly.
“Stoneleigh specialises in rural businesses and organisations and it is entirely fitting that the end product of all that work is sold on site.”
